Title: Reality?
Description: what is it really?

Mrs. Depp - July 4, 2008 05:12 AM (GMT)
I want to know your philosophy on what reality is.
really. discuss it. don't try to convince everyone your philosophy is the right one, just let us know what your philosophy is.

for example,

My philosphy is that there is the common reality which is the things most of us can agree upon to be real, like MW is Storms website and it is located on the internet, if you go on to the computer. Then there is personal reality, which is the things that each individual person believes to be real, like storm is one of my older sister, I have 1 other older sister and 2 younger sisters. In common reality they would only be friends that are so close to me that they feel like sisters. but to me they are really my sisters, I won't let any convince me other wise.

I have one grasp for reality... It just happens to be that life is not something you waste away for your own selfish reasons. suicide Is the example of that. When people have no sense of reality, they create their own. My reality is the world I'm about to face... I'm afraid of what's to become of my life. Will I pass school? Will I ever get a job? Reality is what we make it, is it not? well my reality is that my close friends are my family, My family Is my friends... except for my dad, but that's something to work up to. In my reality... I just live day by day, My plans don't fully get planned out unless they're important. My world consists of the things I need always being there, the things I want can wait. life is going to jump at me full force in about a year, but I won't be alone. I have an ok life, and my reality is what you see in everyday life.

Does this make reality relative or absolute? Is what we see, our relative reality? Or does everyone see what everyone else sees (absolute)?

Mrs. Depp - July 4, 2008 08:27 PM (GMT)
that's an interesting question. I suppose that what I call personal reality might be reletive, but what i call common reality might be absolute.

Ark - July 4, 2008 09:07 PM (GMT)
reality is what i percieve through my senses and my thoughts.
it is relative, both in peoples differing senses and thoughts.

Mrs. Depp - July 4, 2008 09:14 PM (GMT)
so what your saying is that there is no absolute reality. Is that correct?

Ark - July 4, 2008 09:44 PM (GMT)
yes.

c-106mc - July 4, 2008 09:47 PM (GMT)
Could you say a relative reality is made up of many absolutes?

Mrs. Depp - July 4, 2008 10:14 PM (GMT)
interesting thought.

or that a relative reality is made of both absolutes and relatives?

Reality is relative, based upon what each individual experiences. For instance, I could say that an animal is a puppy. Clearly, in someone else's mind, that same animal could be a kitten.

An absolute reality wouldn't be possible for humans to perceive.

c-106mc - July 8, 2008 08:14 PM (GMT)
However, many people share the same relative views on physical things, like, through inductive or deductive reasoning and logic we decide we see a kitten, because we have seen kittens before and it looks just like one, if you had seen a kitten before, you would probably agree, right?

Therefore I think we have a relatively absolute reality, not jsut a relative one.

mrpopolike2 - July 8, 2008 08:51 PM (GMT)
But what if I definitely see a puppy there? What if you're all just crazy?

Who's right? The majority (which may or may not all be insane) or the minority (which may or may not be insane)? I believe that neither can be entirely sure that they're correct.

c-106mc - July 8, 2008 09:29 PM (GMT)
But Popo, what is right?

mrpopolike2 - July 8, 2008 09:38 PM (GMT)
"Right" would be what is true in the absolute, which as you recall I don't think we can interpret.

The only reality is now. While some can perceive things differently than others, and everyone has different views on just about everything. None of that really matters. What does matter is that we are here right now. No if's and's or but's.

Well said.

Unless this is the Matrix, then it's bunk.

*Turns into an agent*

You know too much

*Police carry Popo away with a black bag over his head*

And now, back on topic. I have nothing more to contribute, but the topic desperately needs to be put back on track, per the rules of this forum.
