Chapter 53: The Feltcher Family Curse! History of Zenzou
A year has passed since the battle between Tobias and Devin atop Highswrenck Tower. The incident of cities being reduced to stone had been long forgotten, and written off as a supernatural phenomena. In the middle of the park in Cydnis, Jerson shuffles through his deck.
"Been a while since I used these," he said to himself.
"Used what?" a voice rings out behind him, scaring Jerson. Ezra stands behind the bench Jerson was sitting on, hands on her hips.
"Ezra, you scared me. It's nothing, really. Just a deck I used when I was younger. I figured I'd see if I can still get by with it. So what's up?"
"I was wondering if you knew where Toby was. He's not answering his cell, and there's no answer at his house."
"Yeah, I know where he is. It's best not to bother him, though."
"Why? Is he alright?"
"Physically, yeah. Emotionally, well, I'm not so sure about that."
The wind blows gently, picking up leaves off of the tombstones scattered across the cemetary. Tobias and his father traverse the marble maze and reach a small, secluded area of the cemetary where three tombstones were lined up.
SHANELLE FELTCHER 1964 - 1991 A LOVING MOTHER AND WIFE
KYLE FELTCHER 1985-2007 A CARING BROTHER AND SON
JENNIFER FELTCHER 1987-2006 A CARING SISTER AND DAUGHTER
"Eighteen years. It feels like an eternity, though," Tobias's father said.
"Believe me, Dad, I'll end this. I just need to figure out how," Tobias replied. "I have a feeling that the battle with Devin wasn't the end of it. He's still out there. And in here."
"Just promise me you won't overdo it. The last thing I need is for you to be the next victim." He pulls out a cigarette and lights it.
"I have no intention of dying now. But keep inhaling those and it'll be your grave that'll be dug next."
"Let my life be the last thing on your mind. What's more important is your own. You might not have as much time as you think. That's what your brother thought."
"Toby..." Ezra said, standing behind Tobias.
"Ezra?!" Tobias spins around in shock. "How did you..."
"Sorry, man," Jerson apologized, stepping out from behind a tree. "She...insisted."
"Toby, I'm so sorry. I had no idea, if I had known, I wouldn't have..."
"Ezra, stop. No need to apologize. I understand. After all, I ignored those thirty-eight calls you sent me."
"So, you planning on introducing me anytime this century?" Tobias's father asked.
"Well, I didn't really plan for this meeting to happen here, but..." Tobias trailed off, scratching the back of his head, "Dad, this is Ezra. Ezra, my father, Dante."
"Pleasure to meet you," Ezra said, shaking Dante's hand.
"So you're Ezra. Tobias here has said some stories about you."
"Dad!" Tobias scolded.
"Oh has he?" Ezra asked intrigingly.
"Can we discuss this later, when we're out of the cemetary!?" Tobias shouted.
"Fine, fine. Let's head out. C'mon, I'll give you two a life back to Cydnis."
"Ezra's actually from Melston," Tobias explained.
"Actually, I just moved into Cydnis. That's why I've been trying to call you," Ezra replied.
"Hubba-wha?!"
At Tobias's house, the three friends enter Tobias's room. "Make yourselves at home."
"So, this is your room? It's pretty big. Almost as big as mine back at the estate," Ezra said.
"I've got more space than I use, but it's nice when I have a few people over. Everyone's not cramped up together."
"So, those graves, they were your family's, weren't they?" Ezra asked.
"Ezra!" Jerson scolded.
"No, Jerson, it's okay. The two of you deserve to know this. But to answer your question, yeah, they're the graves of my mother and siblings. They all died of the same cause, too."
"Was it some kind of accident?" Ezra asked.
"It was Zenzou."
"Zenzou? You mean that demon or whatever it was Devin was controlled by?" Jerson asked.
"The one and the same. And Zenzou's not just any demon. He's an interdimensional beast that destroys the very fabric of space and time."
"No way! Something like that is out there?" Ezra inquired.
"Yes and no. You see, it's a rather complicated story. You know about the meteor that destroyed the dinosaurs back in the prehistoric era?"
"Was it really a meteor?" Jerson asked.
"That's what the records show, but the truth is that it's a rock-hard shell of Zenzou's pupal state. It crossed the dimensions and crashed into the Earth. The evil energy from within rippled across the globe and eradicated all life from existance. That rock contains the bulk of Zenzou's being, but that energy ripple exists within a host until he's released. And that host is me."
"Are you serious?" Ezra asked.
"Dead serious. But it wasn't just me. Originally, it was my ancestor from way back when the cavemen roamed the earth. The offspring would inherit a small portion of that evil energy within them, and it's been carried on and on until this day and age, where it was originally within my mother, but split into my siblings and I. Being the youngest, my brother Kyle and sister Jennifer beared the burden for a good while. When I was born, whatever energy was left inside of my mother was passed on to me, and she passed away shortly thereafter."
"I'm so sorry," Ezra said.
"Thanks. But that wasn't the last of it. When I was fifteen, my sister had an unfortunate accident at work one day. She suddenly collapsed as the life was slowly drained from her. By the time they had gotten her to the hospital, it was too late. A year later, the evil energy overtook my brother's subconcious and made him demented and insane. It came down to a point where he wasn't able to be subdued by hand, so the police had no other choice but to shoot. It took a total of one hundred and thirty-six bullets to finally put an end to his life."
"Damn..." Jerson replied.
"And now I'm stuck with Zenzou's energy floating around in my subconscious. If Zenzou isn't destroyed soon, I'll be joining my family in that cemetary. That's also the reason why I wear these." He points to the shades he wore.
"Yeah, you said something back at the Gainsborough Tournement about them. When you took them off, it was like you were another person," Ezra recalled.
"That was Zenzou's energy taking control over me. Without these shades, I'd be criminally insane, but with them, his evil powers are surpressed."
"Like Cyclops from the X-Men comics?" Jerson asked.
"Exactly. As long as I have these things on, or my eyes are shut, Zenzou has no power over me."
"But there's just one thing that doesn't make sense yet. How are you going to defeat Zenzou?" Ezra asked.
"That's the tricky part. I don't have an answer for that yet. That's why I duel, to find an answer to put an end to his curse once and for all. If I fail, my father will have no one left in this world to call family. He's an only child who's parents died in a car accident twenty years ago. I don't want to have to leave him all alone."
"So you're not just doing this for yourself, but for your father too? That's so sweet of you."
"I'm also doing it to avenge my mother and siblings. Zenzou has to be destroyed at all costs, and I'm the only one who can do it!"
"Of course, you can always count on me to help ya out," Jerson said, extending his hand.
"I don't want to have to drag you into this, J. You've experienced first-hand what we're dealing with here."
"So I was petrified! Big deal! I'm not about to let my best friend carry this burden alone. I want to do whatever I can to help you out."
"Thanks, man. You're a good friend." Tobias's hand meets Jerson's.
"I want to help too!" Ezra declared.
"You sure? This is some gruesome stuff we'll be dealing with. I don't want you to get hurt again."
"I'm fine. I've felt better than I've ever felt before!" Ezra replied, stretching her legs behind her. "Nothing's gonna stop me, no matter how tough!"
"I guess there's no talking you out of it, then."
"So it's agreed then. We'll search for a way to stop Zenzou together!" Jerson said.
"I'll get Conway to help too. And I'm sure Derrick will assist us as well," Ezra added.
"With a team like ours, I'm sure we'll succeed," Tobias replied.

Chapter 54: Best Friends United! The Impervious Stone WallTHE FOLLOWING TAKES PLACE BEFORE THE EVENTS OF CHAPTER 53"Lady Stone, we'll soon be arriving to your new home," a limosine driver said, talking to the young girl in the back seat. She had long brown hair braided into pigtails that rested on her shoulders and wore a plain, white blouse and denim jeans. "Thank you. I can't believe it's been twelve years since I've been here," she replied. "Your aunt was a magnificent woman, and I was honored to have served her. With her decision to pass on her fortune to you, my services are now yours, my lady." "Yes. Thank you." The brown-haired girl looks down to the floor, a sad look on her face. The driver looks in the rear-view mirror and sees her sadness. "Is something the matter, my lady?" he asked. "Huh? Oh, no! No! I'm glad my aunt gave me this opportunity!" She answered, smiling. Although, I didn't exactly ask for it either...
At the Burns Estate, Mr. Burns finishes eating breakfast in the dining hall and flips through the newspaper. He peers over the top of the pages and sees Ezra shamble sleepily to the table. "Everything all right, dear?" "Yeah, I just couldn't sleep last night. Father, I've been thinking. What would you do if I decided to live on my own, like Conway?" "Well, if that were your decision, I'd support you one hundred percent of the way. After all, I let Conway go without an objection, why wouldn't I do the same for you? Why do you ask? Are you actually planning to live on your own?" "I'm not sure yet. I have to give it more thought. I just wanted your opinion is all. Thanks, father!" She hugs him and kisses him on the cheek. "I only want the best for you, sweetie." He flips through the newspaper again as an article catches his eye. "Oh dear, Jo-Anne passed away?" "Who? Mrs. Stone down the street?" Ezra asked. "Yes, I'm afraid so. Looks like cancer finally got her. And it looks like someone's moving into the estate." "New neighbors? Great, I guess we'll have to throw a welcoming party now, huh?" "No, if I'm reading this right, it's her niece, Roxanne." "No way! Roxanne! I haven't seen her in ages!" Ezra runs up to her room. "What's the rush?" "If I'm gonna go see her, I have to freshen up first, right?"
Outside the Stone Estate, the limosine driver steps out and rushes over to the opposite side of the vehicle, opening the back door to let Roxanne out. "Here we are, my lady. Your new home." "It's bigger than I remember," Roxanne said. She looks up at the roof of the castle-like building. "I just hope I don't get lost in here." "Roxy!" Ezra shouted, running up the pavement to the estate. "Ezzy? Is that you?" Roxanne asked, spinning around in shock. The two friends greet each other with a hug. "Oh, it's been so long since I last saw you!" "I know, right? I wouldn't have known about you coming here if not for my father reading it in the paper. I rushed over here as fast as I could!" "I wouldn't have asked for a better welcome wagon. Did Conway come too?" Roxanne asked, looking around. "No, he moved out five years ago. He lives in Gainsborough now." "Oh, that's a shame." "I can see that crush you have on him is strong as ever," Ezra joked. "Shut up! I don't have a crush on him! How could you even think that?!" "Oh please, you and I both know you have the hots for him!" "No, it's not like that at all! I'm not crushing on him anymore!" Roxanne quickly covers her mouth with both her hands, meeping quietly. "Aha!" Ezra said sheepishly. "So you admit it! You did have a crush on my brother! Man, I'm gonna get a lot of mileage on this one!" She swaggered into the estate. "Alright fine, I admit it! But I was young back then! I got over it! I'm crushing on somebody else now! I swear! Ezra! Get back here, c'mon!" She follows her into the estate, chasing after the snickering Ezra.
Outside in the garden, Ezra and Roxanne walk around the flowerbeds, catching up on what they've been doing the past ten years since they last saw each other. "Wow, he must've been a real knight in shining armor, huh?" Roxanne asked. "More than that. He didn't just save me, but he saved the world, crazy as it sounds." "No, I believe you. After all, I've experienced that petrification that everyone has." "Wait, you were still conscious?" Ezra asked, surprised. "Yeah, it was wierd. I couldn't move at all, but I could still feel the cool air around me and everything. I could even see perfectly, if not for the fact that everything had a grayish hue to it." "Wow, I guess you can live up to that name of yours, huh?" Ezra joked. "Very funny. Hey! You know what we should do?" "No, what?" "Let's have a duel. Y'know, for old time's sake. I haven't dueled anyone good in a long while. At least with you, I'll know that it'll be a challenge." "Sure, I'm down with that." Ezra heads over to the other side of the flowerbed and readies her duel disk. "Duel!" the two friends shouted in unison. "I'll let you go first, Roxy!" "Alright, then. I draw. And I'll summon Fossil Tusker in Attack Mode. (ATK 1800)" A large, skeletal mammoth appears behind Roxanne, grunting deeply. "I'll then set two cards face-down and end my turn." "Then it's my turn. I draw." That Fossil Tusker is one of Roxanne's faves, I know that much. If I let it destroy one of my monsters, it'll inflict 400 damage to my Life Points. "I set a monster face-down, and then set another card face-down to end my turn." "It's not like you to take the defensive, Ezzy. I draw. And I'll activate my face-down card, Rock Bombardment. By sending a Rock-type monster from my deck to the Graveyard, I can inflict 500 damage to your Life Points! So I'll send Criosphinx to the Graveyard!" Ezra: 3500 LP Roxanne: 4000 LP "Next, I'll remove Criosphinx from play to Special Summon Gigantes from my hand! (ATK 1900)" A large, brown-skinned ogre holding a tree trunk appeared on the field. "Next, I'll activate my other face-down, Release from Stone! This lets me summon a Rock-type monster of mine that's removed from play, so I'll bring back Criosphinx! (ATK 1200)" A large, blue-skinned centaur-like beast bursts from a fissure in the ground. "I've seen this combination before. That means..." "That's right. I'm sacrificing Criosphinx to summon Exxod, Master of the Guard! (DEF 4000)" A large, golden Exodus figure slowly emerges behind Roxanne, smashing its fists together. "And now, my Gigantes will attack your face-down monster!" The ogre lunges at the brown-backed card as it flips over, revealing a friendly-looking snowman. The attack bounces right off the snowman's head. "A snowman? That's what you were hiding?" "Not just any snowman, Roxy. This is Snowman Eater! (DEF 1900) And since you flipped it face-up, I get to activate its effect!" From the base of the snowman, a small, green creature pops out and bites the large boney mammoth, destroying it before hiding back underneath the snowman. "My Fossil Tusker!" Roxanne protested. "What just happened?" "My Snowman Eater's effect will destroy one face-up monster on the field whenever it gets flipped face-up. So I chose your Fossil Tusker." "Not bad, but you should've targeted Exxod. I end my turn." "Time to trade in my Snowman Eater for a bigger monster. I summon Royal Knight of the Ice Barrier! (ATK 2000) And when Royal Knight is summoned, he summons an Ice Coffin Token to your side of the field. (ATK 1000) Now attack Gigantes with Polar Plunge!" The regal monster drives its lance into the ogre's stomache. Ezra: 3500 LP Roxanne: 3900 LP "Not bad, but by destroying Gigantes, his effect will destroy all Spell and Trap Cards on the field!" "My Blizzard Wall. Oh well. I end my turn." "I remove from play both Criosphinx and Fossil Tusker to summon Gigastone Omega in Defense Mode! (DEF 2300)" A giant turtle-like creature made of rock emerges from the ground. "I'll activate Yellow Luster Shield to end my turn. With this Spell on the field, all of my monsters gain 300 DEF! (DEF 4300/300/2600)" "As if your monsters didn't have enough DEF to begin with," Ezra remarked sarcastically. "I summon Bushi of the Ice Barrier. (ATK 1800)" A samurai in whitish-blue armor appears on the field. "Next, I'll switch my Royal Knight to Attack Mode and end my turn." "I activate Earthquake. This forces all monsters on the field to Defense Mode." "Since my Bushi is in Defense Mode, his effect activated. After destroying him, I get to draw a new card." "That makes it easier for me. I sacrifice the lovely Ice Coffin Token you gave me to..." "Sorry to rain on your parade, but you can't use Ice Coffin Token as a sacrifice. You're stuck with it." "In that case, I sacrifice Gigastone Omega to summon Hieracosphinx. (ATK 2400)" A large, hawk-headed sphinx appears on the field. "Attack her Royal Knight!" The large sphinx pounces onto the regal monster and destroys it. "That'll do for now." "Since you have four cards on the field, I can Special Summon Medium of the Ice Barrier from my hand! (ATK 2200) And next, I'll summon Blizzard Dragon! (ATK 1800) Now I activate Blizzard Dragon's effect, allowing me to prevent a monster you control from changing modes or attacking on your next turn. And I choose your Hieracosphinx. Now, Blizzard Dragon, attack the Ice Coffin Token!" The icy dragon unleashes a burst of cold air from its mouth, shattering the icy crown. "That ends my turn." "You may be preventing my Hieracosphinx from attacking, but that doesn't mean I can't sacrifice it! But the monster I'm summoning will be face-down, just to keep you guessing." "I think I can take it! Medium of the Ice Barrier, attack her face-down monster!" "Sorry, Ezzy, but you ran smack into my Guardian Sphinx. (DEF 2700)" "Oh no!" Ezra: 3000 LP Roxanne: 3900 LP "Crap! I end my turn." "I really hate to do this, Ezzy, but I may never have an oppotunity like this again. I use Guardian Sphinx's effect to set it back face-down, then I'll Flip Summon it back into Attack Mode! (ATK 1700) And when it's Flip Summoned, all of your monsters are forced to return to your hand, leaving you wide open! Also, with Exxod on the field, every time I Flip Summon an Earth Attribute monster, you lose 1000 Life Points!" Ezra: 2000 LP Roxanne: 3900 LP "Now, Guardian Sphinx, attack Ezzy directly!" This Token cannot be used as a Tribute for a Tribute Summon." However, that effect was a mistranslation. The following effect is the correct effect: "When this card is Tribute Summoned, Special Summon 1 "Ice Coffin Token" (Aqua-type/WATER/Level 1/ATK 1000/DEF 0) to your opponent's side of the field in Attack Position. This Token cannot be used as a Tribute for a Tribute Summon." From this chapter onwards, the correct effect will be used.
This post has been edited by MystikX on Jun 7 2009, 06:43 PM

Chapter 55: The Second Dragon - Brionac's Evolution!"Roxy, you have to tell me," Ezra asked. "Where did you get all of these cards? I've never seen you use half of these before." "You could say that they were gifts from my aunt before she passed away. I've been wanting to try them out, but never had the chance until now. And look at the standings now! You've barely touched my Life Points and you're down to your last 300! You have to admit these cards are amazing, aren't they?" "Well, there's no denying that. I resummon Blizzard Dragon! (ATK 1800) Attack Guardian Sphinx!" The icy dragon fires a frosty gale from its mouth, freezing the large sphinx, which shatters apart into small ice shards. Ezra: 300 LP Roxanne: 3800 LP "I place a card face-down and end my turn." "Then I'll start mine." Roxanne draws her card and smiles. "Oh, goody, an old favorite. I remove from play Guardian Sphinx and Gigastone Omega to summon Earth Giant Gaia Plate!" A large golem rises behind Roxanne, steam emitting from where the rocks are connected. "Oh great! Your ace monster!" Ezra complained. "That's right, and you know how it works. Whenever it battles with your monster, its ATK and DEF are halved! (ATK 900) Gaia Plate, attack Blizzard Dragon with Plate Crushing Fist!" The large golem launches a heavy punch towards the icy dragon, crushing it beneath it. "I won't lose this round! I activate Dimension Wall! Now any damage I would take from this battle is done to you instead!" Ezra: 300 LP Roxanne: 1900 LP "Not bad, Ezzy. You're as persistant at surviving as I remember! I place a card face-down and end my turn." "Since you have four cards on the field again, I can resummon my Medium of the Ice Barrier! (DEF 1600) I'll then back her up with Acolyte of the Ice Barrier! (DEF 1000) That'll end my turn." "During my Standby Phase, I need to remove from play a Rock in my Graveyard, or else I destroy Gaia Plate. Luckily, I have Hieracosphinx in there." "But then that leaves you with no more, come next turn." "Actually, I still have Criosphinx in there, but it wouldn't hurt to add another in there. I activate Foolish Burial to send Grave Ohja to the Graveyard. Then I'll summon Barrieroid Garman in the Defense Mode! (DEF 2600) If you even want to attack me, he's going to be your first target. Now, Gaia Plate, attack Medium of the Ice Barrier!" "Great, Medium was my best shot at winning..." "I end my turn. It's your move." "I summon Ice Blast User Rice! (ATK 800) And now I'll tune together my Level 4 Acolyte with my Level 2 Rice to Synchro Summon Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier! (ATK 2300) And I use its effect, by discarding a card from my hand, I can return your Gaia Plate to your hand!" "Nice try, Ezzy, but I anticipated Brionac coming out. I activate my face-down card, Effect Shut! Not only does this negate Brionac's effect, but it destroys him as well." "No, Brionac!" The large, icy serpent cracks apart and explodes into a massive snowstorm. "That leaves you defenseless, Ezzy." "I still have this card, which I'm placing face-down. I end my turn." "Looks like I win, Ezzy. I remove Grave Ohja from play to keep Gaia Plate on the field. Then, I switch Barrieroid Garman to Attack Mode. (ATK 600) Now, Gaia Plate, attack her directly." "No, Roxy, I still have my face-down card: Scapegoat! (DEF 0)" Four small, fluffy sheep emerge on the field. The yellow one hops in front of the golem's fist, taking the blow. "Persistant as ever," Roxanne chuckled, shaking her head. "Barrieroid Garman, attack another one of her Scapegoats." The wall-like golem falls on top of the pink sheep, crushing it. "I summon Guardian Statue. (ATK 800) That ends my turn." I can't last another turn unless I draw another monster. Her monsters are strong enough to break through my remaining Goat Tokens, and all I have in my hand is Ice Queen, and I can't even summon her! My next card will decide the fate of this duel. Ezra draws her card and looks at it. "I activate Trade In! By discarding a Level 8 monster from my hand, such as Ice Queen, I can draw two more cards!" "Getting desperate, eh, Ezzy? Ice Queen's your best monster, but given the circumstances, you can't summon her, so you pitch her instead. Let's see what you've got left." These next two cards need to help me no matter what. Otherwise... "Here I go!" Ezra draws her two cards: Monster Reborn and Water Spirit. She gasps as she realizes her possible move. "Looks like I've no choice. I activate Monster Reborn." "Don't even try it, Ezzy. I know Ice Queen can't be summoned from the Graveyard, and Criosphinx is too weak to help you out. All you have left is your Medium or...oh no!" "That's right, I'm bringing back Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier! (ATK 2300)" The icy serpent emerges once more and bellows a deep roar. "Crap, and I left Barrieroid Garman in Attack Mode! And I have nothing to combat its effect with!" "Don't worry, I'm not use Brionac's effect, nor am I attacking with it." "Then...what? Why would you bring back Brionac if you're not gonna use it's abilities?" "I summon Water Spirit! (ATK 400)" A small puddle of water appears on the field and forms into a small, watery creature. "A Tuner? You're planning another Synchro Summon?!" "Yup. But I have to admit, I try to refrain from summoning this monster as much as possible, due to its immense power, but you've left me no choice. I tune together my Level 6 Brionac with my Level 1 Water Spirit! Witness Brionac's evolution with your own eyes, Roxy!" "What...is that?!" "I Synchro Summon Gungnir, Dragon of the Ice Barrier! (ATK 2500)" A large, red and blue icy dragon emerges from a large chunk of ice, screeching loudly. "Oh, no, that monster's strong enough to finish the duel!" "Precisely the point! Gungnir, attack Barrieroid Garman with Second Ice Age!" The large dragon flaps its wings, creating a hurricane of snow and ice, reducing the wall-like golem to icy rubble. Ezra: 300 LP Roxanne: 0 LP "Wow. Ezra, you never cease to amaze me," Roxanne complimented. "Thanks. It was a great going away duel." "What do you mean?" "I've decided to follow in my brother's footsteps, and move out to live on my own." "Really? And here I was hoping we'd be able to spend more time together." "Don't worry. I'll swing by every now and then. Now that I know where you live, we can hang out whenever we want!" "Pinkie swear?" Roxanne asked, raising her right pinkie finger. "Of course." Chapter 56: The Biologist's Secret! Derrick's Fear Realized
"Took me a few years," Derrick said, standing outside a large laboratory, "but I've finally found him. Time set things straight." He walks through spinning doors and walks up to the front desk. The secretary was sitting behind it, filing her nails. "Um, excuse me. I'm looking for Dr. Tejada."
"Lab 722B," the secretary replied in a bored tone, not moving her eyes to Derrick.
"Thanks." He walked down the hallway and reached the elevators, pressing the up button. A few minutes later, one of the elevators opened up, and a few scientists exit from it, heading out to lunch. As he awaits the elevator to reach the seventh floor, he thumbs through his deck and pulls out a card. "I won't lose with this card." The bells rings, signaling that the elevator reached its destination. Derrick puts his deck back into his duel disk and exits. As he reaches Lab 722B, he reaches for the doorknob.
"If you're looking for Dr. Tejada, he stepped out for lunch," a voice rang from down the hallway.
Derrick looks up and finds a scientist with ruffled red hair a few doors down. "You wouldn't happen to know when he'd get back, would you? It's urgent that I see him."
"I'm afraid not. You a friend of his?"
"I'm his younger cousin, Derrick."
"Oh, so you're Derrick? He's told me some stories about you."
"I'd imagine. He made it his life's goal to mine miserable. I'm here to end it."
"I see. Well, if you want, wanna pass the time with a duel?"
"You duel?" Derrick asked, intrigued.
"Granted I'm not that good at it, but it helps me with my research, believe it or not."
"Alright. I'm game."
"Excellent! There's a dueling field out back." Derrick follows the scientist down the hallway to a padlocked door. The scientist pulls out a key and unlocks it, revealing a large dueling arena. "It may not be like the duel disks you're probably used to, but it gets the job done."
"I haven't dueled on a podium like this in ages," Derrick remarked. "Not everyday you see one of these nowadays."
"Shall we?" The two duelists got up on the podium as they rose up.
"By the way, I never got your name," Derrick said.
"It's Todd."
"Alright then, Todd, let's duel!"
"Since I made the challenge, you get the first move."
"Then I'll start with Psi-Station. Then, I'll summon my Telekinetic Shocker in Attack Mode! (ATK 1700) And next, I'll activate the effect of my Psi-Station. If I pay 500 Life Points when I Normal Summon a Psychic-type monster, I can increase that monster's ATK by 300 and its Level by 1. (ATK 2000; Level 5) I'll place a card face-down and pass it over to you."
"Your cousin told me that you use the Psychic-type monsters. Never thought I'd actually have the chance to see them with my own eyes. At any rate, I summon Treeborn Frog in Attack Mode. (ATK 100) Then I'll place a Field Spell known as Wetlands." The stage sprouts marshy grass at a rapid rate as a slight drizzle falls from above. "As long as this Field Spell is in effect, all Level 2 and lower monsters that are both Aqua-type and Water Attribute will receive a large power bonus to their ATK. (ATK 1300) I'll then play a face-down and end it there."
Oh man...he summoned a frog? I hate frogs. Ever since that day... Derrick shakes off his thought and focuses. Regardless, he left his frog out there in Attack Mode, inviting me to attack it. That's why he played his face-down. I won't fall for this trick. "I summon Psychic Commander in Attack Mode! (ATK 1400)"
"Using your Psi-Station again?" Todd asked.
"Not this time. I could if I wanted to, but I have better plans. I'm going to tune together my Level 5 Telekinetic Shocker with my Level 3 Psychic Commander to Synchro Summon Thought Ruler Archfiend! (ATK 2700)" A large, winged demon roars as it emerges on the field. "Attack his Treeborn Frog!"
"There's a reason I had my Frog in Attack Mode, and I'm afraid you've fallen into my Trap: Froggy Forcefield! This will destroy your Archfiend."
"I anticipated that you set a Trap for me. That's why I summoned my Archfiend. By paying 1000 Life Points, I can negate a card's effect that targets one of my Psychic monsters and destroy it!"
"One problem, though: Froggy Forcefield doesn't target your Archfiend specifically, meaning it can't negate it!"
"You're kidding!" A small forcefield appears around the small yellow frog as the demon's claw strikes it. The forcefield then expands and decimates the demon in a blinding flash. "I can't believe I fell for that. I'll place another card face-down. Then, during my End Phase, I activate Metaphysical Regeneration. For every Psychic monster that was sent to the Graveyard this turn, I gain 1000 Life Points. And with three monsters sent there this turn, that's an extra 3000 Life Points."
Derrick: 6500 LP
Todd: 4000 LP
"Very impressive. You managed to turn your disadvantage on the field into an advantage in Life Points. I summon Substitoad in Defense Mode. (DEF 2000)" A small toad appeared on the field. Its right half was angelic looking, white in color, while its left half was demonic looking, black in color.
More frogs! Derrick panicked to himself.
"And now I'm going to attempt something confusing, so do try to keep up. I'm using Substitoad's effect. By Tributing a monster, I can summon a Frog from my deck. So, with that, I'll Tribute my Treeborn Frog to summon my Poison Draw Frog. (ATK 1300)" A small, brown frog appeared on the field in place of the yellow one. "And I'll use Substitoad's effect once more, this time Tributing Poison Draw Frog for another one. (ATK 1300)"
"Wh-What was the p-point of that?" Derrick asked nervously.
"Because when Poison Draw Frog is sent to the Graveyard, I can draw a new card. And now I'll do the exact same thing, replacing my Poison Draw Frog with the third one in my deck. (ATK 1300) Finally, I'll Tribute this last Frog for a different Frog in my Deck: the Dupe Frog. (ATK 1300)" A lavender frog, dotted with pink question marks on it, appeared on the field, wearing a graduation cap. "Next I'll use Substitoad to trade in Dupe Frog for Des Frog. (ATK 1900)" A medium-sized green frog appeared on the field.
That one's bigger than the others!
"And with Dupe Frog's effect, I can add a Frog from my Deck to my hand. So I'll add a second Des Frog. Finally, I'll use Substitoad to Tribute itself to summon the third Des Frog from my deck. (ATK 1900) And now I'll activate Polymerization to fuse the two Des Frogs on the field with the one in my hand to summon D.3.S. Frog! (ATK 2500)" A giant green frog appeared on the field, emitting a deafening croak.
"That's a big frog..."
"And it gets bigger, thanks to the Treeborn Frog in my Graveyard, D.3.S Frog gains 500 ATK. (ATK 3000) Attack his Life Points directly!" The large frog lashes its large tongue out towards Derrick, striking the podium he was standing on.
Derrick: 3500 LP
Todd: 4000 LP
"That does it for my turn."
Why did he have to use frogs? They bring back such... Derrick furiously shakes his head, getting his act together. No! I can't let my fear get the better of me! I have to focus! "I draw, and with my face-down card, I can draw two more cards."
"How?"
"Because my face-down card is Psychic Overload. By returning the three Psychic-type monster in my Graveyard to the Deck, or in Thought Ruler Archfiend's case the Extra Deck, I can draw two cards. And I summon the Grapple Blocker in Defense Mode! (DEF 2000)" A yellow and purple being appears on the field, with six tentacles sprouting from its back. "Grapple Blocker, hold his D.3.S. Frog in place!" All six tentacles lash out at the large frog at once, entangling it within its clutches. "As long as I have Grapple Blocker, I can prevent a monster of my choice from attacking, and I chose your D.3.S. Frog! Now I'll place a card face-down and end my turn. And if I want to keep Grapple Blocker on the field, which I do, I have to give up some Life Points."
"You may have stopped my D.3.S. Frog from attacking, but this new monster is under no such spell. I summon the Unifrog! (ATK 1600)" A purple frog with a spiraling horn appeared on the field. "It may not be that much of a match for your Grapple Blocker, but it doesn't need to be, because with its special effect, I can aim for your Life Points. Attack him directly, Unifrog!" The small frog jumps towards Derrick, who has a panicked look on his face. It then fires a small energy blast from its horn, striking the podium. A second blast targets the face-down card on Derrick's field and destroys it. "Since Unifrog hit your Life Points, and I have D.3.S. Frog in play, I can wipe out a Spell or Trap Card you have on the field, and it looks like your Telepathic Power was destroyed. It's your turn."
Derrick: 1400 LP
Todd: 4000 LP
Derrick falls to his knees and places his hands on top of his head. "Make it stop..." he whispered.
"Hey, Derrick, are you alright?" Todd asked.
"Make it stop!" Derrick screamed to the ceiling.
"Hey, Jaime, back from your lunch?" a scientist asked another as he entered the building.
"Yeah, it was longer than I expected," he replied.
"Hey, were you expecting your cousin on showing up today?" the scientist asked.
"Cousin? You mean Derrick? No, not really, why?"
"Well, he was here looking for you, then Todd invited him into the dueling arena on the seventh floor."
"Derrick is dueling Todd?! This isn't good!" Jaime rushes past the scientist and dashes down the hallway, towards the elevators. I hope I'm not too late!

Chapter 57: Overcoming One's Fear! The Miracle Field Spell*20 YEARS AGO* Derrick was sitting at the end of a fishing dock, looking over at the lake. He was camping with his uncle and aunt. "Hey Derrick!" a voice called out to him from behind. Derrick turned around to see his older cousin Jaime and his best friend, Diego. "C'mere, I wanna show you something!" "Okay!" Derrick got up and ran over to his cousin. "Close your eyes," Jaime said. Derrick closed his eyes tightly as Jaime nodded to Diego. He snuck around behind Derrick and stuffed something down the back of his shirt. Derrick immediately jumped and started running around and whatever was in his shirt was alive. "Get it out! Get it out! What is it!?" Derrick shrieked. The creature moved its way to the front it Derrick's shirt and managed to slip into his pants. He started running sporatically around the open field as Jaime and Diego roared with laughter. Derrick finally fell onto the ground as the creature squirmed out of his pant leg: a frog about the size of his fist. "That's not funny!" Derrick squealed. The same frog proceeded to hop onto his face, causing Derrick to freak out again. He jumped up and threw the frog off him, then ran back to the campsite. Jaime and Diego were still laughing.
*PRESENT DAY* Derrick... Jaime thought as he ran down the hallway to the dueling arena. At the dueling arena, Derrick huddled over himself, shaking in fear. "Hey, Derrick, are you alright?" "Make it stop..." Derrick said to himself, tears rolling down his face. "Make it stop, make it stop, make it stop..." "Derrick!" Jaime shouted, entering the duel arena. Derrick opened his eyes and looked down at Jaime. "Ja-Jaime?!" Derrick stuttered, wiping the tears from his eyes. "Derrick, I can only imagine what's going on in your mind right now. You're remembering that day twenty years ago, aren't you?" "How did you..." "Because, I've been kicking myself in the ass over that day for the past twenty years. You've hated me ever since then, haven't you?" Derrick gazes down to the floor, signifying that Jaime was right. "Derrick, I'm sorry about that day, but Diego and I were only seven at that time. We were stupid kids back then who got their kicks out of picking those younger than us. I know you may never forgive me for that day, but I want to make it up to you. I'm not that stupid kid from back then. I've grown up and matured, and I know that what I did was wrong. But you have to face that fear and destroy it, just like I did when I was afraid of clowns!" "You were afraid of clowns, Jaime?" Todd asked. "That's beside the point. Derrick, face that fear! Destroy those frogs! Don't let them get to you!" "Jaime..." Derrick recollected himself and smirked. "Thanks. I needed that." "You're my cousin. We're related by blood, man! We gotta stick together!" "But you're still an asshole." "Hey, now that was uncalled for!" Jaime sarcastically said, pointing his finger at Derrick. "Now kick his ass!" "Right!" Derrick drew his card. "I activate Emergency Teleport, which allows me to Special Summon Krebons from my deck! (ATK 1200) Then I'll use both Grapple Blocker and Krebons as a Tribute so that I can Tribute Summon Master Gig! (ATK 2600)" The large, egg-shaped being appeared on the field. "And with his effect, I can pay 1000 Life Points to destroy a monster you control for every Psychic-type monster that I control. And since I have just the one, I'll destroy one of your monsters. And since D.3.S Frog is stronger than Master Gig, it'll be my target!" From the base of the egg creature, laser cannons emerged and fired all at once, striking the two frogs on the opposite end of the field. "I thought you could only destroy one monster with your card's effect?" Todd protested. "I did. I also figured I'd declare my attack with Master Gig to wipe out your Unifrog while I was at it." "Not bad. Your monster is certainly powerful." Derrick: 400 LP Todd: 3000 LP "I'm gonna need some back up! First, I'll bring back my Treeborn Frog from the Graveyard using its effect! (DEF 100) Then, I summon Submarine Frog in Defense Mode! (DEF 600) I'll then set a card face-down and end my turn. It's a shame, though, even if you do summon another monster, you can't use your Master Gig's effect without the proper amount of Life Points." "I don't need Life Points for his effect!" Derrick said. "What?" "Allow me to change the scenery with a Field Spell of my own. Since we're in a laboratory, I figured that this card would be appropriate. I activate the Brain Exploitation Research Lab!" The slight rainfall died down as the marshy grass died and turned brown. The field was then replaced with a dark green floor as walls rose up on the sides. In the middle was a stasis tube, housing a brain. "And now, I summon the Reinforced Human Psychic Borg! (ATK 1500)" A human with robotic parts appeared on the field, brandishing a laser-bladed claymore. "Now I activate Master Gig's effect! Destroy his frogs!" "You can't! You don't have the Life Points!" The egg being fired its array of lasers, destroying the two frogs. In the stasis tube, a wire hooks itself up to the brain. "But...how?" "With my Lab in play, I don't have to pay Life Points to use the effects of my Psychic-type monsters. Instead, I place a Psychic Counter on it instead, as you can see, that wire hooked up to the brain in the tube." "Interesting," Jaime said. "That means there's no limit to how many times you can use the effects of your Psychic-type monsters!" "There is a downside to the card, though. A big one. If it gets destoryed, I lose 1000 Life Points for every Psychic Counter on it. And now, I'll activate the next effect of my Lab, allowing me an extra Normal Summon of a Psychic-type monster from my hand! And I choose Armored Psychicker! (ATK 2200)" A large, green monster with tubes sticking out of its back emerges onto the field. Inside the tubes appears a serum, getting pumped into the monster. "But how? That's a Level 6 monster, where's the sacrifice?" Todd demanded. "I don't need a sacrifice if I already have a Psychic-type monster on the field. And now, I add another Psychic Counter to my Field Spell!" Another wire hooks itself up to the brain. "And speaking of other Psychic-types, let's not forget about my Psychic Borg! I can remove a Psychic-type monster in my Graveyard from play to buff him up by 500 points permanently, but I can only do this a maximum of two times each turn. So I'll remove both Grapple Blocker and Krebons to power up my Psychic Borg! (ATK 2500)" "Amazing, you've assembled a powerful force of monsters for combat. You truly are a great duelist," Todd complimented. "Better than me," Jaime said. "I can see that now." "And this is where my victory is achieved! Psychic Borg, attack him directly!" The mechanized humanoid lunges towards the podium that Todd stood upon. "Nice try, but your victory will have to wait a turn. I activate my Trap Card: Negate Attack! Not only will this stop your attack, but it also ends your Battle Phase." "In that case, I'll set these two cards face-down and end my turn." "And I shall take mine. And it starts with Re-Fusion! By paying up a small 800 Life Points, I can bring back a Fusion Monster that I lost this duel." "D.3.S. Frog!" Derrick said. "That's right, and with Treeborn Frog back in the Graveyard, it becomes 500 points stronger! (ATK 3000) Now attack the Psychic Borg to finish the duel!" "I'm not going down just yet! I activate Psychic Soul! This Trap Card will offer up my Master Gig, and in exchange, I gain 300 Life Points for each of its Level Stars!" "Your Borg is still destroyed either way!" "But I have the Life Points to survive the attack!" Derrick: 2300 LP Todd: 2200 LP "Interesting, but I can't let you get away with another ploy like last time. I activate Twister to demolish your Lab! And as you said before, you lose 1000 Life Points for each of the Psychic Counters on it!" Derrick: 300 LP Todd: 1700 LP "I end my turn." "Then it's time to win this." "How? Your Armored Psychicker is too weak, and even if you did power it up, you take damage with its effect." "But what if I trade him out for a new monster? I Tribute Summon Overdrive Teleporter! (ATK 2100)" "He's even weaker!" "Not for long! I can use his effect to summon two Level 3 Psychic monsters from the deck." "But you need 2000 Life Points to do so, and you no longer have your Lab in play." "I still have this: Supremacy Berry! Since my Life Points are lower than yours, I gain 2000 Life Points! And like you said, I need 2000 Life Points to use my Teleporter's effect, so that's just what I'm gonna do. Now I summon Psychic Commander and Mind Protector!" "Interesting, but you still lack the power to defeat my D.3.S. Frog!" "Then I'll have to tune together my Level 6 Overdrive Teleporter with my Level 3 Psychic Commander to Synchro Summon Hyper Psychic Blaster! (ATK 3000)" "Not bad. Your monster has power to match my Frog, but your Protector has none at all, so I guess that plan failed." "I still have my face-down card." "What!" Oh no! He's right! He played two cards last turn! What's that other card?!"Assault Mode Activate! This Trap Card allows my Hyper Psychic Blaster to enter its Assault Mode! (ATK 3500) Now he's more powerful than your Frog. Attack, with Bizzaro Blaster!" The humanoid gunner fires both its guns at the large frog, destroying it. "And there's more. Whenever my Blaster attacks a monster, you lose Life Points equal to that monster's DEF. And correct me if I'm wrong, but that makes your Life Points 0, right?" "Heheh...right!" Todd chuckled. Derrick: 300 LP Todd: 0 LP
In Jaime's lab, the three friends gather around, explaining the story from twenty years ago to Todd. "I see now. I'm sorry about doing that to you, Derrick." "Don't worry about it. You wouldn't have known." "At any rate, I hope this starts us off on the right foot now," Jaime said. "I dunno," Derrick replied. "You're still an asshole. But I guess I can give you a chance." "One of these days, Derrick." "So, Todd, what kind of work do you do anyways? You said that the duels help you in your research. Do you study duel theory or something?" "No, not really. I'm actually a biologist, and the duels help me know how the creatures move, especially the ones I tend to focus the most on." "Oh really? And what creatures would that be?" "Why, these." Todd brings over a tank and pulls out a frog. "AH!" Derrick screamed, running out of the room. Jaime and Todd look at each other confused, only to see Derrick poke his head in the doorway. "Gotcha!" The two scientists then look at each other again, sharing a good laugh with Derrick. TSUDZUKU
Brain Explotation Research Lab Spell/Field Once per turn, you can Normal Summon 1 Psychic-Type monster in addition to your Normal Summon for the turn. When a Psychic-Type monster is Normal Summoned this way place 1 Psychic Counter on this card. Also, if you would pay Life Points in order to activate the effect of a Psychic-Type monster you control, you can place 1 Psychic Counter on this card instead. When this card is removed from the field, its controller takes damage equal to the number of Psychic Counters that were on it x1000. *RELEASED IN OCG SET ANCIENT PROPHECY*
Chapter 58: Donna's Plea - Donald's Demise
"So why exactly are we out here again?" Jerson asked. He and Tobias walked through the park in the middle of Cydnis.
"I got an e-mail last night, saying that someone needed help. I dunno how it is, but they mentioned Zenzou, so it's worth checking out. They told me to meet up here."
"I had a feeling Zenzou was the reason you were so adamant about coming here. So, where is this person?"
"Like I said, they didn't give me a name." Tobias looks around the area and spots someone. "Although now I have a pretty good hunch as to who it is." The two friends walk over to where another person stood, back facing them. "I guess you're the reason I'm here."
"You guess right." The person turns around. "Been a while, Tobias."
"Donna!? I never expected it was you!"
"Friend of yours?" Jerson asked.
"That's right. You were a rock at the time. Donna was one of the Marshal holders and challenged me and Conway to a tag duel with her twin brother. That reminds me, where's Donald?"
"That's why I called you here," Donna explained. "Apparently, whatever hold Zenzou had over us back then still exists within my brother's subconscious. It appears that he's controlling my brother again."
"Then I already know what you're going to ask. Althought I can't guarantee he'll come out of this as if nothing happened. If what I suspect is about to go down, you may have one less brother by the end of the day."
"I understand. After all, I've experienced first-hand what happens when Zenzou is involved."
"Then take me to him, if you know where he is."
Inside the hospital's psychiatric ward, Donna leads Tobias and Jerson towards the padded cell that holds Donald. Inside, Donald quietly sits in the corner, strapped in a straightjacket as a priest throws holy water around the room. The orderly outside the room let the three duelists in.
"The power of Christ compells you!" the priest chanted.
"Sorry, Father, but I'm afraid a demon like this won't be expelled by...traditional means," Tobias said, locking his duel disk into place. "I'm surprised you haven't burst out of that jacket yet, Donald."
Donald laughs deeply, his voice different from before, almost warped. "I knew you were coming, young Feltcher. I was merely waiting for your arrival to pull my...'Houdini' act." Donald stands up and tenses up. In a show of inhuman strength, he tears the jacket right of by pulling his arms apart. The shredded jacket falls to the padded floor as a duel disk materializes on Donald's arm.
"You all may want to get out of here and close the door. This could get ugly."
"What exactly is going on here?" the priest asked in a shivering tone.
"Trust me, not even the lord himself would believe me if I told him. It's best if you let me handle things." The priest shuffles out of the room as Donna and the orderly follow him.
"You be careful, dude," Jerson said before closing the door.
"Now then, since we have the room to ourselves, time for me to perform my pattened Feltcher Exorcism!"
"Duel!"
"I'll take the first move," Donald said. "And I'll summon Bountiful Artemis in Defense Mode. (DEF 1700)" A synthetic-looking angel appears in front of Donald. "I'll then place these two cards face-down and end my turn."
"Ironic how the possessed plays an angel. Oh well. Can't be helped! I draw!"
"And I activate one of my face-down cards: the Continuous Trap Synthetic Seraphim. Now, for every Counter Trap Card that's activated, I get to summon a small Token to the field."
Counter Traps, well that's just great! Looks like I'm in for a tough one! "I summon Goggle Golem! (ATK 1500) And then, I activate Double Summon! With this, I can get another summon this round."
"I'm afraid not, because my Dark Bribe will negate your Spell Card before it can even activate!" Tobias sneered as he tossed the card into the Graveyard. "Now don't look so sad. Dark Bribe allows you to draw a new card to replace the old one. However, with Artemis on my field, I get to draw a new card as well. And with my other Trap Card, I get to summon a Synthetic Seraphim Token! (DEF 300)" A small, synthetic angel emerged from the card, next to the first one.
"In that case, I'll attack your Token with my Goggle Golem! Rock Fist Attack!" The large golem brings its massive fist down onto the small angel, crushing it. "Now I'll place one card face-down and end my turn."
"I summon Meltiel, Sage of the Sky! (ATK 1600)" Another synthetic angel appeared on the field, this time with a large halo around its waist. "And next, I'll discard Zeradias, Herald of Heaven from my hand. By doing so, I can add The Sanctuary in the Sky to my hand. Of course, I'll activate it as well." The floor of the padded room changed into a series of clouds as a large temple appeared behind Donald. "Finally, I'll set two card and pass things on to you."
Strange. Both of his monsters were stronger than my Goggle Golem. So then why didn't he attack? He's up to something, and I'll flush it out! "I summon Gemini Summoner!"
"Think again! My Forced Back Trap Card will see to it that your monster stays in your hand!"
"Damn! And since that was a Counter Trap..."
"It means I reap the benefits of my three cards: First I summon another Token! (DEF 300) Next I draw with Artemis! Finally I gain 1000 Life Points with Meltiel. And since I have my Field Spell in play, Meltiel gets a second ability!"
"A second one!?" Tobias looks in shock as the golem next to him spontaneously erupts in a shrapnel of holy light. "No, my Goggle Golem! What have you done?"
"As I said, Meltiel has a second ability if my Field Spell is in play, allowing me to destroy a card you control!"
"Nevertheless, I activate Soul Rope! At the cost of 1000 Life Points, I can summon a monster from my deck!"
"Again, I say no. I activate Seven Tools of the Bandit!"
"Damnit!"
Tobias: 3000 LP
Donald: 5000 LP
"I've no choice. I place two cards face-down and end my turn."
"I'll tribute one of my Tokens to summon Airknight Parshath! (ATK 1900) And now, my Airknight will attack you directly!"
"Not if I activate Birthright! This revives a Normal Monster in my Graveyard, or in this case, a Gemini Monster, like Goggle Golem! (ATK 1500) And next, I'll use Super Double Summon to unlock my Golem's effect, increasing his ATK! (ATK 2100)"
"I can see the pressure is getting to you! If you had waited for me to attack your Golem, you would've destroyed my Airknight Parshath!"
Damn, he's right! I should've waited. Oh well, too late now...
"I'll have to end my turn there, then."
"And since I used Super Double Summon, Goggle Golem returns to my hand. But now, I'll resummon him once again! Then I'll activate the Equip Spell Flint! By attaching this to Meltiel, she'll lose some ATK! (ATK 1300) Go, Goggle Golem, smash Meltiel into next week with Rock Fist Attack!"
"A nice display of power, but thanks to my Field Spell, any damage done to my monsters becomes 0!"
"That's not what I was aiming for, though. Without Meltiel, you can't gain more Life Points for every Counter Trap, nor can you destroy my cards. But the real gem of the deal is that my Equip Spell now changes its target to Parshath! (ATK 1600) And as long as he's equipped with Flint, he can't attack, so I'm safe from him."
"Maybe so, but if I trade him in for a better monster, it'll be under no such spell! I sacrifice my Airknight Parshath to Special Summon Neo-Parshath, the Sky Paladin! (ATK 2300) And since I have my Field Spell in play, if my Life Points are higher, which they are, the difference is added to his ATK! (ATK 4300) Now attack his Goggle Golem!" The force of the attack sends Tobias flying backwards, bouncing off the padded wall and onto the ground.
From outside the room, through the small window on the door, Jerson and Donna watch at what happens. "Toby!" Jerson calls out.
"Oh, Donald..." Donna said, a tear rolling down her cheek.
Tobias: 100 LP
Donald: 5000 LP
Tobias struggles to get up, exhausted from the duel. Damn, I knew these Death Duels were taxing on the body, but I never imagined something like this!
Donald laughs maniacally. "You're on your last leg, human! With the difference in Life Points being larger now, Neo-Parshath's ATK increases some more! (ATK 7000) There's no chance for beating me now, you might as well surrender! HAHAHAHAHA!"

Chapter 59: An Angel's Wrath - The ATK of 10,000"This is bad. The duel's only a few turns in and Toby's already down to his last 100 Life Points!" Jerson said. "It gets worse," Donna said. "Neo-Parshath inherits all abilities that the original Parshath had." "Wait, you mean..." "Fraid so. No matter what mode Tobias puts his next monster in, he's taking damage." Jerson turns back to the window. "C'mon, Toby! You've been in worse situations than this. You can pull through this. I know you can!"
"I set a card face-down and end my turn," Donald said with a smirk. "Alright, time to take out that monster of yours! I draw!" "Hm...to activate my face-down or not to activate my face-down...that IS the question...I choose...to activate it: Go, Aegis of Gaia! As long as this card sticks around, my Life Points get supercharged!" Tobias: 100 LP Donald: 8000 LP "And let's not forget about Neo-Parshath, who gets stronger the bigger the gap in our Life Points is! (ATK 10000)" Damnit! There's nothing I can do! Tobias looks at the card he drew for his turn. Whoops! Spoke too soon! "I summon Gemini Summoner in Defense Mode! (DEF 0) Then I'll flank him with two face-downs. Make your move." "HAHAHAH! It doesn't matter what mode you put your monsters in, Neo-Parshath has the ability to inflict Piercing damage! This duel is over! Neo-Parshath, attack!" "I was hoping you'd do that," Tobias said slyly. "What!?" "I activate my face-down card: Overworked! With this, I can destroy all monsters on the field whose current ATK is higher than their original ATK. And I'd say that 10000 ATK is higher than 2300, wouldn't you agree?" A purple stream of flames fires from the card, enveloping the angelic being and destroying it. "You may have stopped my Sky Paladin, but I still have monsters more powerful than he in my deck! I place a card face-down on the field. Then, I summon Harvest Angel of Wisdom! (ATK 1800) I end my turn." "Before I draw, I activate my other face-down card: Solemn Wishes! I figure it's about time I restore some of the Life Points you took from me!" Tobias: 600 LP Donald: 8000 LP "Great!" Jerson said. "Now Tobias can start a comeback!" "But my brother still has more than tenfold the Life Points Tobias has. This isn't going to be easy, Jerson." "I think I'll summon a new monster of mine," Tobias said. "I summon Evoltector Chevalier! (ATK 1900)" A knight in burning crimson armor emerges on the field, sword in one hand, burning cloud of flames in the other. "Now, Chevalier, attack his Harvest Angel of Wisdom with Blood-Burning Blade!" The knight rushes at the heavenly being, igniting its sword and preparing to strike. "I activate my Trap Card: Negate Attack! Sorry, but your comeback will have to start next turn!" "No matter. I control the strongest monster on the field, and once I summon him again, I'll..." "Sorry, but your entire field is about to be destroyed!" "What do you mean?" "I told you that I had monsters more powerful than my Sky Paladin, and I happen to have one right here: Voltanis the Adjudicator!" "But you can only summon that by...oh crap!" Tobias brings his hand to his face. "That's right! Since Negate Attack was a Counter Trap, I not only draw a card for Bountiful Artemis, but I can now sacrifice the three Fairy-type monsters I have on the field to summon Voltanis! (ATK 2800) And when Voltanis is summoned by this method, for every monster I sacrificed, I destroy one of your cards! I sacrificed three monsters, and you have three cards, so say goodbye!" "Gah! Damnit!" "And thanks to Synthetic Seraphim, I get a new Token monster. (DEF 300)" "In that case, I'll I have left is this card to throw face-down." "Then I shall end this duel! Voltanis attack! Judgmental Ray!" "Walked right into my trap! Go, Security Orb! This forces Voltanis to take a knee! (DEF 1400)" "I set this card face-down and end my turn." "I've got a chance to turn things around again! And I will with Gemini Wealth! By discarding a Gemini Monster from my hand, I can draw three more cards! And I summon Zarakan! (ATK 1500) Attack Voltanis with Eagle Wind!" "You'll pay for that, human!" "I place a card face-down, then I'll play Card Trader!" "Not if my Spell-Stopping Statute has anything to say about it. And it does, since it negates any Continuous Spell Card you play!" "I end my turn..." Tobias sneered. "Then I can summon The Agent of Creation - Venus! (ATK 1600) And if I give up a few Life Points, I can summon a Mystical Shine Ball to the field! (DEF 500) In fact, I'll do that three times to get three of them! Now, Venus, attack his Zarakan!" Tobias: 500 LP Donald: 6500 LP "Thank god I use Solemn Wishes two turns ago. Otherwise I wouldn't have survived that one..." "I'll place another card face-down and end my turn." I need a powerhouse move here. Otherwise, it's all over! "I draw! And I activate Monster Reborn to bring back the Grasschopper I discarded last turn! (ATK 2350) And I'll use this turn's Normal Summon to unlock its effect: the ability to attack all monsters at once! Go, Kusanagi Cutter!" The large praying mantis slices through all five monsters on the field. "Interesting turn around. What else do you have?" "This, the Equip Spell Card Ribbon of Rebirth!" "Just what I was waiting for! I activate Armor Break!" "Oh no!" "'Oh no' is right, human, because this negates your Equip Spell and destroys it, giving me another Token. Also, I can summon this card from my hand!" "Another Voltanis!?" Tobias asked. "Worse! I summon the Dark Dragon Ruler Van'Dalgyon! (ATK 2800) And he gets his effect depending on what I negated. And since it was a Spell Card that was negated, Van'Dalgyon deals 1500 points of damage straight at your Life Points!" "You're kidding me!" "I'm afraid not! Enjoy your stay in Hell! HAHAHAHAHAH!" Chapter 60: The Dark Dragon Lord Rises! Phoenix Gearfried's Miracle"Enjoy your stay in Hell! I'll be sure to keep a nice, cozy area reserved for you!" Donald taunted, the large ebony dragon launching a large fireball from its hands. "I'm afraid I'm gonna have to postpone that reservation! Activate Energy-Absorbing Monolith! With this I can take your burn effect and transform it into a healing effect!" Tobias: 2000 LP Donald: 6500 LP "You only delay the inevitable, human!" He's right. I may have dodged that bullet, but it still doesn't mean I'm safe just yet. After all, Van'Dalgyon is a powerful monster. "I end my turn." "Then it's time to have some fun! Val'Dalgyon, attack the Grasschopper with Ebony Immolation!" A black flame erupts in the dragon's fist as it slashes at the large mantis. Tobias: 1550 LP Donald: 6500 LP "That ends my turn." "I draw!" Phoedelyzer! This gives me an idea. "I summon Phoedelyzer in Defesne Mode! (DEF 1100)" A thin magician appeared on the field, creating a small barrier around it. "That's all I've got this turn." "Then allow me to smash your monster to bits! Go, Van'Dalgyon!" "Just what I wanted you to do. By destroying Phoedelyzer in battle, I can send a Gemini Monster from my Deck to the Graveyard, then draw a new card!" "Draw all the cards you want. You can't defeat my all-powerful Van'Dalgyon!" "We'll see about that. Are you done?" Donald nods. "Then I draw! And I activate Trade In! By discarding a Level 8 monster, I can draw two more cards! And I've drawn Swing of Memories, a special Spell Card that can bring back a Normal Monster in my Graveyard for the turn! And I choose Phoenix Gearfried! (ATK 2800)" "What!? But I never destroyed him!" Donald protested. "No, you didn't. But he's the card I discarded with Trade In! And now he's back! And I'll further power him up with Supervis! Time to take out your Van'Dalgyon! Phoenix Gearfried, attack with Suzaku Slash!" "A valiant effort, but it'll only end up with both monsters being destroyed! Ebony Immolation!" The two monsters clash as black and golden flames collide and explode, destroying the wall. "Dude!" Jerson coughed, the smoke filling up the area. Both Donald and Tobias exit the padded cell, coughing up smoke. "Damn!" Tobais said, dropping to his knees. "Remind me to never do that again!" "Toby, you alright?" Jerson asked. "Yeah, I'm fine. But we're not done yet." "Blasted human! You destroyed Van'Dalgyon! No matter, that attack left you with no monsters, so you're defenseless!" "You sure about that?" Tobias asked. As the smoke cleared, the silver-armored swordsman stood. The tiny synthetic angel was driven through his sword and shattered. "What? But how!" "That's the beauty of Supervis. When it's sent to the Graveyard, I can revive a Normal Monster. And I chose Phoenix Gearfried. I also decided to get rid of that Synthetic Seraphim Token you've had on the field for the last five turns as well." "I matters not what you do, human. I have the means to end this duel here and now!" "At least wait until I set my face-down card before you go playing anything!" "Time to finish this duel. I summon The Agent of Force - Mars! (ATK 0)" A red-skinned angel appeared on the field, twirling a warhammer in its hand. "Oh no!" Tobias said. "What's the problem?" Jerson asked. "It's got no ATK, why are you so worried?" "Mars powers itself up if my Life Points are lower!" "That's right! And since your Life Points are 1550 and mine are 6500, that makes the ATK of Mars 4950, which is more than enough to wipe out your remaining Life Points! Attack!" The red-skinned angel twirls its hammer a second time and tosses it at the silver warrior, destroying it. Tobias: 100 LP Donald: 6500 LP "You still live, human. Interesting on how your will to survive has lasted this far! I never would have guessed that your face-down card was Gemini Booster. I end my turn." Alright. This is it. The final turn. The next card I draw...could be my last... "Here we go!" Tobias draws his card. "I activate Pot of Avarice! And then, I activate Serial Spell!" "Serial Spell!? That doubles the effect of a Spell Card!" Donald exclaimed. "That's right. So now I return these five monsters to my Deck and draw four cards!" Tobias shuffles his deck and puts it back into his deck, drawing his four cards. "I activate Explosive Rebirth! This brings back a Fire Attribute monster from my Graveyard, so I'll bring back Phoenix Gearfried! (ATK 2800)" "Bring back your monster as many times as you want. It'll do you no good!" "I've still got more cards to play! First is Megamorph! This doubles Gearfried's ATK! (ATK 5600) Then, I'll play Forbidden Chalice, giving Gearfried even more power! (ATK 6000)" "So you've got your monster stronger. It still doesn't hold a candle to Mars! (ATK 6400)" "Then I guess I'll have to drop Mars's ATK." "Good luck. Mars is immune to Spell Cards, so you won't be able to touch him!" "Then it's a good thing that this next card won't target Mars. Instead, I'll smash your Sanctuary!" "What!? How!?" "With this: Spell-Shattering Arrow! By destroying all face-up Spell Cards you have on the field, you'll lose 500 Life Points for each one!" An arrow of light fires from the card, striking the large building behind Donald. The building cracks and falls apart. Tobias: 100 LP Donald: 6000 LP "And without Sanctuary in the Sky on the field, Mars's ATK goes back to its original value: 0!" "No! I was so close!" "Phoenix Gearfried, end this! Suzaku Slash!" The silver warrior ignites and rushes forward, taking the image of a flaming phoenix. The impact of the attack creates an explosion that rocks the building, destroying half the wing. | QUOTE (Parakaitz @ Jun 24 2009, 01:59 AM) | Whoo, finally got the entire fic converted. Ready for more now.
BTW, don't post pics directly, do link to them. I won't be able to put them directly into the page. Just an FYI, don't edit your previous posts because the edit won't get up on the main site! |
Gah, alright. I was hoping I could avoid that, but I guess I have to do it the hard way now. ;_;
And what about editing of the first post when it come to the time I edit the deck lists?

Chapter 61: Pen Pal Battle! Jerson's New DeckTHE FOLLOWING TAKES PLACE BEFORE THE EVENTS OF CHAPTER 58"Alright, Toby, here I come!" Timmy declared, having a friendly duel with Tobias. "I summon Thermal Genex!" "Heh, I remember that one. But does it stand a chance against my Phoenix Gearfried?" The two large monsters clash, the silver-armored swordsman coming out on top. "Aw man! I thought my monster would've been stronger! It's supposed to get more ATK for every Genex in my Graveyard!" Timmy complained. "You got the two effects reversed, kiddo," Tobias stated. "The boosting effect looks at the Fire Attribute monsters in your Graveyard. It's the damaging effect that looks for the Genex monsters." "Aw man, I really need to get the hang of these Synchro monsters! They're too complicated!" "Don't worry, kiddo. You'll get used to them in time," Tobias said, walking over to the defeated duelist. "Just keep listening to what I say and everything will be a-okay, okay?" "Right!" "There you are, Toby!" Jerson called out, walking over to the master and apprentice duo. With him was a large, Native American teenager sporting a custom duel disk. "What's up, J?" "You remember my pen pal Hayato, right? Well, this is him in the flesh. He's here for the week, and I figured I'd show him around town." "It's an honor to meet you, Tobias. Jerson has told me so much about you," Hayato said, extending his hand. "Likewise. Although I wonder exactly what Jerson's been saying about me, because he knows the consequences of talking bull behind my back." Tobias joked, shaking hands. "Rest assured," Hayato laughed, "he's said good things." He glances at Timmy, who cowers behind Tobias. "Geez, kiddo, if I didn't know any better, I'd say an earthquake was happening!" Tobias exclaimed. "This here's Timmy. He's what you could call my apprentice in dueling. We kinda have an older-younger brother relationship going on." "He-Hello..." Timmy nervously said to the towering teenager. "Don't be afraid," Hayato said, getting down on one knee to be eye-level. "This giant's as gentle as can be." "So, Hayato, how about that duel you challenged me to?" Jerson asked. "Ah, right! I almost forgot about that!" Hayato replied, rising from the ground. "That was the first letter I sent to you, wasn't it, where I wished to duel you someday?" "That's right, and that wish is about to be granted!" Jerson readies his duel disk. "This should be good," Tobias said. "Been a while since I've seen you duel, J." "Been a while since I used this deck, too!" Jerson said. "Wait, you mean..." "Yup. I'm going back to my roots!" "Duel!" "Visiting team gets first bat, Hayato!" "Very well. I shall activate Spring of Rebirth." A large water fountain appears behind Hayato. "Next, I summon Thunder Bird of Mist Valley. (ATK 1100)" A small, yellow-feathered bird perches on a rock that materializes on the field. "Next, I shall return my Thunder Bird to my hand to Special Summon Mist Condor. (ATK 1400)" A blue-feathered condor appears on the field as the yellow one vanishes. "Wait, why go through all that trouble for a monster you could've Normal Summoned?" Jerson asked. "Three reasons. The first is that Mist Condor's ATK is modified. (ATK 1700) The second is that my Spring of Rebirth restores 500 of my Life Points. The third is that my Thunder Bird can be Special Summoned from my hand when it returns to it from the field. (ATK 1100) I shall set a card and end my turn." "Wow, that's a good combo. Lemme show you one of mine! I summon the Skull-Mark Ladybug! (ATK 500)" A large ladybug with a skull and crossbones on its wings appears on the field. "Next, I activate Insect Imitation!" "What's that do, Toby?" Timmy asked. "Jerson can sacrifice a monster on his field to summon an Insect-type monster from his deck. The monster he summons needs to be one level higher than the sacrifice, though," Tobias explained. "That's exactly right," Jerson said. "So I'll trade in my Ladybug for Millennium Scorpion! (ATK 2000)" A large scorpion with the eye of wjdat on its back appeared on the field. Jerson: 5000 LP Hayato: 4500 LP "Hm? Why did your Life Points increase?" Hayato asked. "When Skull-Mark Ladybug is sent to the Graveyard, I automatically gain 1000 Life Points. Now, Millennium Scorpion, attack his Thunder Bird of Mist Valley!" "I'm afraid I can't allow that, my friend! I activate Compulsory Evacuation Device! With this card, I can send your Millennium Scorpion back to your hand! And since a monster on the field was returned to the hand, I gain another 500 Life Points." Jerson: 5000 LP Hayato: 5000 LP "Not good. I need to protect my Life Points. I activate Javelin Beetle Pact! By using the Millennium Scorpion and Minar in my hand as a sacrifice, I can Ritual Summon Javelin Beetle! (ATK 2450)" A large, blue stag beetle with a trident appeared on the field. "That'll end my turn." "Not only did you get a monster to protect your Life Points, but it's a powerful one at that. Impressive. But can you handle this? I summon the Wind User of Mist Valley. (ATK 400)" A small, blue-feathered bird appeared on the field from a tornado. "That's...actually pretty weak," Jerson said. "Jerson, that thing's a Tuner Monster!" Tobias exclaimed. "Huh-wha?" "Tobias is right. My Wind User is, in fact, a Tuner Monster. And I shall use that power to tune it together with my other two monsters." "Lesse, if Mist Condor is Level 4, and Thunder Bird is Level 3, that makes....a Level 9 Synchro? Is there such a thing?!" Jerson asked. "Indeed there is. I Synchro Summon Mist Wurm! (ATK 2500)" A large, blue centipede-like monster appears behind Hayato, spouting a greyish mist from its back. "When my Mist Wurm is summoned, I can return up to three cards on your side of the field to the hand. And since you only have the one Javelin Beetle, I'll return that to your hand, supplying me with another 500 Life Points thanks to Spring of Rebirth." "Great, and without my Javelin Beetle on the field, I'm wide open!" "Precisely, my friend! Mist Wurm, attack him directly!" Jerson: 2500 LP Hayato: 5500 LP "I shall now set one card face-down and end my turn." "Another attack like that, and I'm finished. I won't let that happen! I remove from play Minar and Skull-Mark Ladybug to Special Summon Doom Dozer from my hand! (ATK 2800) And I'm not done there! I remove from play Millennium Scorpion as well to Special Summon Aztekipede, the Worm Warrior! (ATK 1900)" Two large centipedes appear behind Jerson. "Now, Doom Dozer, attack his Mist Wurm!" The two giant centipedes clash, but the blue one shortly perishes. "Now, Aztekipede, attack him directly!" Jerson: 2500 LP Hayato: 3300 LP "Oh, and there's one thing you should know. Since both of my monsters did damage, you have to send the top card of your Deck to the Graveyard for each one. So that's two cards." "Very well. Your monsters are formidable, my friend, but mine are stronger. I summon Falcon of Mist Valley! (ATK 2000)" A humanoid being in feathery armor appeared on the field, shield and sword in hand. "Next, I shall activate Monster Reborn to bring back my Thunder Bird of Mist Valley. (ATK 1100)" That's odd, Tobias thought to himself. If I were him, I would've brought back Mist Wurm for the raw power it possesses. Something tells me that his strategy has to do with that Falcon of Mist Valley of his. "Jerson, be careful!" "Relax. If he was smart, he would've brought back Mist Wurm!" "That's the problem! Why didn't he?" "It's true," Hayato confirmed. "I could have brought back Mist Wurm, but it wouldn't work out as well as my Thunder Bird. But before I begin, I activate my face-down card: Judgment of Thunder. Since I just summoned a Thunder-type monster, I can destroy one card of yours, Jerson. And I choose your Doom Dozer." A large bolt of lightning strikes the large centipede, leaving nothing behind. "And now, I shall attack with my Falcon of Mist Valley. However, in order to do so, I must return one of my cards on the field to my hand. And I choose my Thunder Bird." "So that's why! He's using both of their abilities together!" Tobias realized. "Falcon of Mist Valley, attack Aztekipede!" The feathered being slashes down the middle of the large centipede. "And with my Thunder Bird returned to my hand, I can summon it back. (DEF 700) Unfortunately, when I summon it in this way, it's unable to attack, so I'll set this card face-down and end my turn." Jerson: 2400 LP Hayato: 3800 LP "Alright, just what I needed! First, I summon Pinch Hopper! (ATK 1000)" A large grasshopper appeared on the field. "Next, I activate a Spell Card: Insect Costume! After discarding Javelin Beetle from my hand, I can replace in with an Insect-type monster from my deck, as long as I destroy an Insect I control afterwards. So I'll destroy Pinch Hopper!" "Why would he do that?" Timmy asked. "When Pinch Hopper is sent from the field to the Graveyard, Jerson can summon an Insect from his hand, no matter what level it is. It's a combo he's been known for back when you were still in diapers, kiddo." "Now I Special Summon Dreadscythe Harvester! (ATK 2300)" A large, green insectoid being emerged onto the field, brandishing a large scythe. "Now, Dreadscyther Harvester, attack his Falcon of Mist Valley with Eternal Harvest!" "I activate my Trap Card: Relieve Monster! Since you attacked, I can return my Thunder Bird to my hand to summon a Level 4 monster from my hand. And I choose Watchkeeper of Mist Valley! (DEF 1900) Also, my Thunder Bird returns as well! (DEF 700)" "Alright, that Thunder Bird is starting to piss me off, so I'll use my Replay attack to ground that bird for good. Go, Eternal Harvest!" "What's a Replay attack?" Timmy asked. "It occurs when you declare an attack, but after it's declared, the number of monsters your opponent has on the field changes. From that point, you can choose a new target or choose to call off your attack. Since Hayato's number of monsters changed from two to three after Jerson attacked, he was able to redirect it to another monster, Hayato's Thunder Bird. If he wanted to, he could have attacked the Falcon as he originally planned." "Then why didn't he? He would've done damage." "True. Had he attacked Falcon of Mist Valley, Hayato would have lost 300 Life Points. However, because of the effect of Thunder Bird of Mist Valley, Jerson felt that if got rid of it, he could stop Hayato from gaining Life Points with Spring of Rebirth. So instead of making a brash move, he made a strategic one, where Hayato can't easily recover his Life Points." "I guess that makes sense." "Good, there's going to be a quiz tonight, so pay attention," Tobias joked. "I end my turn." "And now I shall play one of my strongest monsters. I sacrifice Falcon and Watchkeeper of Mist Valley to summon Mist Valley Bird of Prey. (ATK 2700)" "Oh crap!" "And next, I activate Summon Storm. With this, I can pay 800 Life Points to summon a Level 4 or lower Wind Attribute monster from my hand, such as Soldier of Mist Valley! (ATK 1700) And now, my Bird of Prey shall attack your Dreadscyther Harvester!" "Aw man, this isn't good!" "And now, my Soldier of Mist Valley will attack you directly!" Jerson: 300 LP Hayato: 3500 LP "That ends my turn." "C'mon deck, don't fail me now! Alright! I activate the effect of the Golden Ladybug in my hand! As long as I keep this card revealed in my hand this turn, I get 500 Life Points!" "I'm afraid those Life Points will go to me, once I activate the effect of my Mist Valley Bird of Prey! By returning a Mist Valley monster to my hand, I can negate your monster's effect and destroy it! So I return my Soldier to my hand!" Jerson: 300 LP Hayato: 4000 LP "Damnit! That was my best chance for survival! All I got left is this card. Basic Insect, Defense Mode. (DEF 700) I'll then put two cards face-down and end my turn." "This is the end, my friend. I resummon Soldier of Mist Valley. (ATK 1700) Now, Bird of Prey, attack!"
